Reference to landscape

Post de: Andreu Arriola & Carme Fiol

A fire station showing the authors’ interest in both a dialogue with the surrounding landscape and a need to provide a tailor-made space for a particularly functional program.

The project is organized around a central hall where the fire trucks are parked. The rest of the program including the sitting and dining room, the kitchen and the bedrooms on the second floor are complementary to this main working room. Carried out to the spatial volume of the fire station, the roof of this central room extends to the whole building and to its façades. The four garage doors opening like big squared mouths to different directions reinforce the movement of the building.

The alignments of the building and its three dimensional volume refer to the dented line of the Montsant hills in the background. From the beginning, the building itself was more likely understood as a topographic accent in the landscape than a small nave in an industrial zone.
