Zeppelin Evenings – description

The events carried out under this label represent, as far as we know, the longest and the most intense series of architecture, urban and culture-related meetings in Romania.

The events carried out under this label represent, as far as we know, the longest and the most intense series of architecture, urban and culture-related meetings in Romania. During the first eight years (2008-2016), 56 editions were held, attended by over 11,000 people.

The first meeting took place at former Kludi Studio, on Liberty Avenue in Bucharest. We had organized conferences before, but always during the biennial, during other larger events, or at the invitation of other organizations. In 2008, however, we decided it was time to have the first independent event and, given the success it had, the format has not changed very much since then. Zeppelin Evenings is a platform for very serious, yet relaxed, meetings, during which one or more architects, designers (but also engineers, entrepreneurs, visual artists, urban planners, constructors, robot builders etc.) deliver presentations, followed by discussions and a social event with casual conversation over a glass of good wine.

We invite famous architects from Romania and from abroad (at a quick glance, from more than 16 countries so far) but also amazing young people. Many of them have evolved, during these past eight years, from the second position to the first.

The meeting places have changed a lot, from Kludi Studio where we had a 50 participants limit, to Gallery ¾ at the National Theatre, Dalles Hall, the Romanian Peasant Museum, and afterwards (and for most editions) the main hall of the Central University Library Carol I, industrial areas or MNAC (Contemporary Art Museum). The number of participants also changed a lot – for some editions, such as Zeppelin #51, about Norwegian architecture, it exceeded 600 people.

Being more than a series of disparate conferences, Zeppelin evenings has become a program that promotes (and sometimes passionately debates) architecture, design, transformation and urban culture.
