Lafayette College and the City of Easton (Pennsylvania, United States) are the organizers of an international, juried competition to select up to 16 artists or artist-led multidisciplinary teams to create unique, site-specific, multimedia environmental installations as part of the Art of Urban Environments Festival 2011. Located on the Delaware River and in proximity to New York City and Philadelphia, the scenic and historic City of Easton attracts nearly one-half million visitors each year. Some 24-million people live within a 75-mile radius.

Artists from all disciplines, architects, landscape architects, engineers, film makers, and multidisciplinary teams—especially from developing countries—may submit proposals for installations that “re-envision” urban places of nature, art, and culture. The purpose is to involve people of all backgrounds and ages in dialogue about the democratizing and transformative power of art in the city. Partnering with schools, community groups, or arts organizations is encouraged. College students in the last year of design-related programs of study are also eligible.
