A building site and a laboratory instead of a wrapped-up operation: that’s what Republic of Architects tried to express in the interior design of the new atelier.
The assembly of small rooms on the ground floor of an interwar house gets a striking unfinished rendering. The tainted, scratched grey surfaces celebrate work-in-progress and the contrast with the smooth, precise white furniture (built-in, of the architects’ own design or Ikea pieces) makes for a strong, yet pleasant space.
Not just open-end but also open to the people: “Meet the architect” is a series of informal open gatherings, with a predetermined theme (dealing with an old house, refurbishing your attic, minimal housing etc.), to which are invited people from the neighborhood and other interested people. The meetings are about free help, dialogue and the building-up of trust, but also discreet education on architecture and heritage for non-architects, something we all agree we desperately need.
